UK’s University of Southampton ushers its MBA programme for experienced professionals

    Today, more and more mid-career executives and engineers wish to go back to school to enhance their employability prospects, change their career path or start their own business. In order to cater to the needs of such executives, the Southampton Business School has announced admissions open for their MBA programmethat is equipped with the tools, knowledge and confidence to challenge conventional thinking and to succeed in today’s rapidly changing global environment.

    This 12-month MBA programme offered by the Southampton Business School at the UK’s University of Southampton requires at least four years of relevant work experience for the students who wish to pursue a challenging and rigorous programme of study to develop their managerial and leadership capabilities. The programme comprises of 10 core foundation modules aimed at developing managerial and leadership capabilities along with the optional modules. The range of core modules brings attention to diverse subjects such as Managing Business Effectively in the 21st Century, Strategy, Managing People for Performance, Quality & Operations Management, Contemporary Marketing, Accounting – Managing & Measuring Performance and Corporate Finance.

    Accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA), the global standard in MBAs, the Southampton MBA focuses on the highest standard of postgraduate leadership and management education. It emphasizes on integration, which means that while studying traditional business functions, students will learn modules that integrate all the main functions, enabling them to simultaneously apply the theories, knowledge and skills gained throughout the programme. This integrative approach to learning gives them a wider management perspective, preparing them for future roles.

    As part of this programme, the students will get the opportunity to attend an international residential week in The Netherlands, whereas, as part of the European Business Context module they would visit a range of globally focused companies. These visits are complemented by seminars from leading European practitioners and academics.

    To further expand a student’s potential in helping them plan their career, the University of Southampton’s MBA possesses a Personal and Professional Development (PPD) programme, which comprises of career planning and coaching sessions from qualified consultants, professional development seminars and exposure to various employment opportunities. Visiting business leaders from different sectors further enable the students to gain insights and reflect their own development needs and personal aspirations.

    Candidates, who are interested in applying for the programme, must have a first or upper second class honours degree in an appropriate subject from a recognised university, and at least 4-yearsrelevant work experience. Similarly, the degree should be in an appropriate subject with a level of performance comparable to that required from UK graduates. For English language requirements, applicants must score an overall of IELETS 6.5 with no less than 6.5 in reading and writing and 6.0 in listening and speaking. The fee for the one year MBA programme is £23,500, which is payable in two instalments. To further ease the financial burden, the Southampton Business School is offering International Postgraduate Taught Scholarships worth £3,000 and £5,000 to the applicants for its 2015 intake starting from September. To qualify for the scholarship worth £5,000, students must score a 1st class in their Bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent GPA from their respective country), whereas for the Scholarship worth £3,000, students must have achieved a 2:1 in their Bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent GPA from their country).
