Hobbies - What is your hobby?

Posted 10-26-2009 at 11:12 PM by sidgoyal

One of the stumbling blocks for MBA aspirants in Interviews is the question “tell me about your hobby”. While on the face of it, what seems to be a pretty simple and straight forward question actually becomes mostly monotonous and boring because of lack of thought of the candidate on this account. In India, typically 95% Males play/watch Cricket, 90% listen to Music and 85% like reading books as their hobby. That bland response “I like to watch cricket, listen to music and read books” either provokes...

Case Interviews: Explained

Posted 10-26-2009 at 06:30 PM by sidgoyal

I explained in my last article about the various formats in which a candidate is tested with case methodologies during his life cycle in an MBA program. Towards the end of it, in most cases, come placements – the happy as well as very anxious times. Here many companies choose Case interviews as a method to interview candidates. When he is thrown with an unexpected question, his preparation breaks down, his language starts becoming colloquial and approach jittery. This typically happens because the candidate doesn’t understand the fundamentals behind jargons but they just know them. The most infamous but repetitive attempt to cover-up the nervousness is throwing up jargons....

A preliminary Insight to Marketing

Posted 10-16-2009 at 02:30 PM by sidgoyal

An MBA aspirant appearing for an interview is often asked these questions – which stream would you like to major in? Or what is your Career Goals? What excites you about MBA? The responses to these often make candidates run into a word called “Marketing”. I am not going to give any marketing fundae or a crash course to become a champion about marketing here. Rather, I would like to clear a few misconceptions about Marketing – what is marketing? Is it selling a product, is it advertising or is it...
