IPL Marketing Strategy

Posted 04-19-2009 at 01:21 PM by shabbir

April 18 Launched IPL season 2. IPL was one of the most successful Event in 2008 and IPL season 2 is also in the same line for 2009.

With the unexpected results already in the opening matches of IPL season 2 there are lots of things which I saw would like to share them here.

As IPL is Launched by BCCI on the line of Football’s English Premier League and National Basketball League (NBA) of the US. Professional Twenty20 cricket league created and promoted by BCCI and backed by ICC. Its backed by ICC officially but then there are no players from Pakistan, Australia.

Talking about Pakistan game the team that could be most effected are Rajasthan Royal ( Sohail Tanvir the last times Hero ) & Kolkata Knight Riders ( Umar Gul and Shoaib Akhtar ).

Australia's effect is most on Kolkata Knight Riders for Ricky ponting mainly.

Franchisee's Priorities

What could be the most important priority of the owner's of the team. I don't think there could be second thought on this.

We already see that the bottom 3 teams of IPL season 1 ( Deccan Chargers, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore ) have there so called Iconic Players ( VVS Laxman, Saurav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid ) are no more a captain but the concept was to have the Iconic Players creating team. This is gone as team lost and loosing away lot of money.

We also see almost 7-8 advertisement on the official dress of the team and many more shows and other TV shows being conducted by the players and who knows the owner getting good share of it.

Future Plans
  • Four new franchisees will join IPL in 2010-11.
  • Two confirmed franchisees will be based in Ahmedabad and Kanpur.
  • In 2012-13, two more teams will join the IPL.
Afghanistan ODI Status

We may see Afghanistan players in IPL soon now as they have the ODI status.

Who says India is poor. If that would have been the case then we would not have so much money coming to India.
