Overview of GMAT

GMAT or the Graduate Management Aptitude Test is designed for those aspirants who wish to pursue a global MBA.GMAT scores are acceptable by all the leading institutes across the Globe and of late even leading Indian B schools like ISB, are accepting the scores of this exam

The elements on which the aptitude of an aspirant is evaluated are Quantitative skills, Verbal skills, Analytical skills, and Writing Skills. Here is a little more about GMAT.
  1. Completed Application Form: Most B-Schools offer the facility, availing which you can easily apply online. However there are many institutes that offer the provision of downloading their application forms in Pdf format from their respective Web sites.
  2. Academic Transcripts: These refer to those copies which pertain to the mark sheets and degree /provisional certificates of undergraduate /Graduate program that had been done prior to applying for admission into MBA program, certified by the registrar of the University. The things that are taken into account by the admission officers are the GPA/Marks, the school, the pedigree of the institute from where prior studies have been done along with their length.
  3. Official GMAT scores: This is the most important aspect that leads to the admission of an aspirant to a good institute. It may not be right to say that an application is rejected on the basis of a low GMAT score entirely but a high score enables an aspirant to create a niche out there very convincingly.
  4. Work Experience Certificate: Several B schools in the foreign nations like the USA and UK have a minimum requirement for work experience. Though it is a fact that no particular type of work experience is the requirement ,all the institutes expect is that the applicant understand the value of working in groups and under diverse conditions.
  5. Essays/Statement of purpose: In most cases applicants are requires to write essays and statements regarding various topics. These topics include those that are particularly related with the applicant’s personal area of interests like his short and long term goals, his experiences and the reason behind his or her interest in pursuing MBA and why from that institute, why at that particular point of his or her career .These essays are generally three to five in number.
  6. Recommendation Letters: Every school demands a letter of recommendation to be sent by the seniors in the work place or the professors of the applicant. Several B schools appreciate such recommendation letter by confidential email while some prefer other ways of obtaining such recommendation letters.
  7. Official Toefl Score (For non –native English speakers): The ticket to leading global B schools for non native English speakers happen to be the TOEFL ibt version. The required marks to get into a good B school through this test happen to be 90.
  8. Financial Documents: B schools especially American ones demand financial documents stating that the applicant if selected would be able to meet the required necessities of the first year of his education. He should also produce the valid proofs of the sources of the funds.
  9. Application fee: Application fee varies from one school to another. Besides scrutiny of the above details in the application form many institutes also conducts personal interviewees (telephonic for international students who cant be there in person).
