The MBA degree is offered to provide students with an understanding of the advanced level of functioning of business from a theoretical, practical, and managerial perspective. This discipline consists of two parts such as core courses and major courses. Major courses refer to the opportunity of selecting an area of concentration and it includes 30-40% of the studies in MBA.

The MBA degree is offered with choice of majors in variety of business related subjects depending on universities. However there are some common courses of provided by almost all universities, these are: Marketing, International Business, Management Information Systems (MIS), Human Resource Management, Business Policy and Strategy, Finance, Accounting, and, Management. To accomplish a MBA degree one has to do all core courses from these fields, and have to concentrate in only one, sometimes two courses. The core courses develop the foundation in the business area. The concentration courses provide students with in-depth knowledge in the area in which the student specializes. So an MBA degree holder should have basic knowledge of marketing, international business, information systems, human resource management, business policy and strategy, finance, accounting, management and other business related fields, and he/she should be expert or specialized in one of these disciplines.

To keep pace with the demands of industries at present Universities are providing more courses for concentration like business computer, strategic management, software management, environment management etc.
Most of the recognized universities provide some types of MBA to make it suitable for the people of different categories, ages and professions. For example, if you are senior manager or the member of executive body in an organization, you should participate in executive MBA program. This type of program has been introduced to fulfill the educational needs of managers and executives who have at least 10 years work experience.

If your aim is to do MBA to gain very deep knowledge in business and management you should select ‘Accelerated MBA’ which includes a higher course load, more classes and exams. You have to sacrifice most of the vacations.
If you want to participate in MBA to hold a higher degree, to have better job and salary or to learn some basic rules of business studies and apply that practically, you should do full time normal MBA.

MBA is generally a 2 years program, but if one does BBA and MBA from same university he/she needs less time. In contrast, the full time manger can complete MBA in 3 years, as he/she cannot give enough time in studies.

To admit or enroll in MBA program of a recognized university, you must have to appear in an admission test. Almost all the universities grants and prefer GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) as the admission test of MBA. Many Universities and business school also allow the students who passed or have good score in GRE. Moreover some universities take their own form and standard of admission test, but they also give the opportunity to the students having good results GMAT to skip their admission test and admit directly.
