How to be Successful in CAT

The main aim of any CAT aspirant is to get into the IIMs or one of the best B schools all over the country. Writing CAT successfully is overcoming one hurdle. Cracking CAT successfully does not assure you a good B school. The final challenge that is needed to be successfully covered is the “Group Discussion and Personal Interview” round before you actually reach your goal.
How to be Successful?
The group discussion and personal interview round as stated above carries a lot of importance. In fact it is as important as the CAT exam is if not more. Group Discussions and mainly the Personal Interview session is mainly the game of nerves. The stronger you are and the better prepared you are the better you would perform in these round. Often the main problem that one faces during GDPI is the stress. It is natural that people remain under terrific pressure during this stage. There are certain preparatory measures that can be taken to ace the group discussions and the personal interview.
Volunteer and participate in mock Group discussions. Such mocks are often conducted by leading CAT training institutes over the country. The more you go through such simulated GDs the better it is for you. At the end of each such mock taken you should refine your performance. You must be able to evaluate you shortcomings and your strengths. Like any other aspect of life you would be able to succeed only if you can work on your weakness and convert them into you strong points. Refine your performance by taking good note of the good points made by others.
A voice recorder can work wonders .Recording the entire conversation always singles out the mistakes you might have committed. You might have thought that you spoke in a flow but actually it may have happened that you have paused a number of times while speaking. You might have not known otherwise that actually you have groped for words a number of times. The voice recorder would successfully single out such things when you play it later and listen to it.
Having knowledge regarding various issues is a must. You might be a very eloquent person, presentable and smart but without the proper knowledge of the topics you won’t be able to make much of a difference. The latest data over current affairs is absolutely essential .Having knowledge of the latest happenings in the Indian Economy, and even in the global economy is absolutely essential to ace in the GDPI rounds. Knowledge regarding current business scenario is also extremely important. Such knowledge can help you structure your ideas and help you give a formidable position in the group discussion session.
